Which RV Is Best For Me

With all of the different types of RV’s to choose from, how do you know which one to choose? There are many different sizes, colors and styles, amenities, advantages and disadvantages to each one. For a person who is first beginning their journey into the RV lifestyle, the choices can be daunting.

Here, our goal will be to help you to simplify the process for you with the key factors to consider when looking at buying the right RV for you. Once you understand what you need from an RV, you can also explore what you want from an RV

Understanding Your Budget

It will not matter where you want to travel and how long you will stay there if you disregard your budget. Yes, having an RV opens up endless possibilities for travel, adventure, and fun. But going straight for an RV that is out of reach of your budget is not a wise decision even if you choose financing.

No matter your budget, there is an RV for you. When pricing different RV’s it is much like anything else. The larger it is, and the more amenities it has, the higher the price. If you have a lower budget, then the Class B or Class C may be the best suitable. However, keep in mind that just because you may have a larger budget does not mean you have to go with the most expensive.

Are You Adventuring Alone Or With Others?

Some people prefer solitude, while others revel in the joy of sharing their adventures with friends and family. No matter what your preference is this will also have an effect on choosing an RV to purchase. If you have a family and plan to travel together, even if only 3 or 4, then a Class B is very likely to be far too small.

If your budget is flexible for it, a travel trailer RV or a fifth wheel is perfect when traveling as a group. These are the most spacious, providing plenty of room for everyone. They also have more amenities including the facilities to bathe, comfortably sleep, and even electronic entertainment.

If it is just you, or maybe just one other, then a larger RV might even feel too large. For one or two people, a Class B may be perfect for you if you don’t require many amenities. A Class C is the mid-sized RV so it offers more space and amenities without feeling too big.

Which Amenities Do You Require In An RV?

There are a wide range of amenities that can come with an RV, depending on the class. Generally, the larger RV’s will have more amenities because, well, there is more space for them. If we look back at arguably the most important factor, the budget, we can begin to determine which amenities you need and which ones you want.

If you still seek to have modern comforts on your travels, then the Class A motorhome, travel trailer, or fifth wheel is probably the better choice for you. You can also go with the Class C at the expense of some amenities to better suit your budget.

Understanding Your Driving And Towing Capability

Lastly, it’s essential to go over the actual operation of an RV. The motorhomes, or Class A, B, and C, are all driveable which is why they are called motorhomes. However, to legally drive an RV in Texas you may require a special license. Texas does not require, however, for a driver of an RV to obtain a CDL, or Commercial Driver’s License.

Texas does require a special non-CDL driver’s license but different States have their own requirements. The type of license needed in Texas depends largely on the weight of the RV or trailer that you are towing. If you are planning to drive an RV that is over 26,000 pounds, such as the Class A RV, then you are going to need a Class B driver’s license. When it comes to travel trailers and fifth wheels, if the combined weight of both the vehicle used to tow and the RV exceeds 26,000 pounds you will need a Class A license.
